Good to know: Capri is closer to Sorrento than to Amalfi, so the crossing from here is longer; the public ferry from Positano takes about 50 minutes according to its timetable. Whether the Blue Grotto is included, and whether you land or only sail around, differs from offer to offer. Visits to the grotto depend on the swell. Read what the booking page says before you choose.

Frequently asked questions

Where do Amalfi Coast boat tours depart?

Mostly from the harbours of Amalfi and Positano. A smaller group starts in Maiori, Minori, Praiano, Atrani or Furore. A title that says Amalfi Coast can still start in another town, so read the meeting point on the booking page.

Why are tours from Sorrento, Naples or Salerno not listed?

Because they start somewhere else. Tours that leave from Naples, Sorrento, Salerno or Rome are left out here, even when the title says Amalfi Coast. Naples, Sorrento and Rome have their own pages on our sister sites. This page lists only trips that begin on the coast between Positano and Maiori.

How do I get between Amalfi, Positano and Ravello?

By bus or by ferry. The SITA bus from Amalfi to Positano takes about 40 minutes according to its timetable, and the Travelmar ferry about 25 minutes. The ferries run from April to October, and there is no ferry service along the coast in winter. Ravello lies high above the sea and is reached by bus.

Do I need a car?

Not for the towns, and it is often a burden. The coastal road is narrow, parking is scarce, and in some summers traffic limits have applied to the busiest stretch, so check the current rules before you drive. Buses and ferries cover the towns, and most tours here include their own meeting point.

Is the Path of the Gods hard?

It is a medium walk of about three hours from Bomerano, in Agerola, to Nocelle, mostly downhill. From Nocelle it is about 1,500 steps down to Positano. You do not finish where you started, so plan transport at both ends, and expect little shade in summer.

Are there sandy beaches?

Not in the usual sense. Marina Grande in Amalfi has sand mixed with pebbles and mostly paid sections, with a small free area. Positano has Spiaggia Grande and the quieter Fornillo. Many of the best coves can only be reached by boat, which is why swim stops matter on boat tours.

What does the Amalfi Coast not have?

No railway along the coast, no major airport, no large sandy beach and very little flat land. Everything depends on one narrow road and the ferries, which is why where a tour starts and how you get there matter as much as the tour itself.
