Furore Fjord and the Emerald Grotto by Boat: Which Trip Actually Shows Them?
Updated October 22, 2026 · 4 min read
The Furore Fjord and the Emerald Grotto both sit on the short stretch of coast between Amalfi and Praiano, and several boat trips pass them. The cheapest way to see them is the two-hour coast and Furore Fjord cruise from Amalfi: €36 per person, rated 4.8 from 596 reviews. Only one of the trips below mentions an optional visit inside the Emerald Grotto, and the listing says it is not guaranteed.
Both sights are best seen from the sea. The fjord is a narrow inlet between steep cliffs, and the grotto is a sea cave in Conca dei Marini. What differs between trips is whether you stop, swim or simply pass.
Four trips that include them
| Tour | Duration | From | Rating | What it does at these stops |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| From Amalfi: coast and Furore Fjord boat tour with swim break | 2 hours | €36 per person | 4.8 from 596 reviews | Passes Conca dei Marini and the fjord for photos |
| Amalfi Coast & Positano: boat tour with snorkelling and drinks | 4 to 8 hours | €99 per person | 4.9 from 2,703 reviews | Lists the fjord as a visit and a swim stop at Conca dei Marini |
| Amalfi Coast and Positano: boat tour with caves and drinks | 4 to 6 hours | €148 per person | 4.8 from 1,230 reviews | Names the Furore Fjord and the Grotta di Sant’Andrea |
| Full-day boat tour from Praiano or Positano | 7 hours | €139 per person | 4.8 from 244 reviews | Sails past the fjord and offers the Emerald Grotto as an option |
The two-hour cruise
This is the trip that is built around the stretch. According to the listing it leaves from the Cassone pier in Amalfi at 11 am and passes the Grotta delle Sirene, Conca dei Marini, the Furore Fjord and Marina di Praia, with an optional 30-minute swim at Atrani. Mask, snorkel, beach towels and floating devices are listed, with commentary in English and Italian.
Two cautions. The photo stops at the fjord are short (the itinerary shows about 10 minutes), and the operator lists wheelchair users, people with motion sickness and babies under one year as not suitable. If you hate crowds, ask about the group size when you book, as the listing does not state one.
The longer trips
The €99 small-group trip lists the Furore Fjord as a visit and a swim and snorkel break at Conca dei Marini, with fruit and drinks on board. The €148 gozzo trip names the Furore Fjord, the Grotta di Sant’Andrea and the Lovers’ Arch among its highlights, with groups of up to 10. If you want more than a pass-by, these are better than the 2-hour cruise because they schedule more swim stops. For how they compare overall, see which Amalfi Coast boat tour to book.
The Emerald Grotto
The Grotta dello Smeraldo is in Conca dei Marini. Whether a visit is possible depends on the sea. On the full-day trip from Praiano or Positano the visit is optional: the listing says the entrance fee is about €10 per person, not included, paid on site, and that the visit depends on weather and on the wish of most guests on board. Treat it as a possible extra, not a promised stop.
The trips that list neither a visit nor a fee (the €36 cruise and the €99 trip) should be assumed not to include going inside. Ask the operator if it matters to you.
Weather and the sea
All of these depend on the sea. The full-day trip is described as subject to weather, with no charge for a cancellation caused by adverse conditions and a choice between a refund or rescheduling. If a calm morning matters for your plans, book early in your stay so there is room to move the date.
Which to book
- Cheapest look at both: the €36 two-hour cruise.
- Swimming near the fjord: the €99 small-group trip.
- A chance of the grotto: the €139 full day, knowing the grotto is optional.
- Not suitable for you: if wheelchair access, motion sickness or a baby is the issue, read the listing’s “not suitable” list first and confirm with the operator before booking.
